I still want to check out older classics, but I've been watching a lot more from the past few years for the blog. I'm still not always seeing the brand-new films, but it's nice to be more familiar. That said, I still have a lot of the "big" 2013 movies to see. Just picked up the DVD of 12 Years a Slave from the library, so that's a start.Danhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12351431577484530230noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6917634143872972680.post-32867748925850140072014-03-13T13:41:15.539-05:002014-03-13T13:41:15.539-05:00Andy by "free" on those services, I obvi...Andy by "free" on those services, I obviously mean "included with the subscription we already pay." We usually choose the latter, but you're right, that severely limits how many newer films we see. I'm starting to get hungry to get back in on the conversations surrounding current films, and I think biting the bullet and renting the movies digitally is the way to go.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03288833179709873110noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6917634143872972680.post-66106041283531487742014-03-13T13:27:36.679-05:002014-03-13T13:27:36.679-05:00Jandy, that makes sense about the price. Still, the point about the costs of hitting the theaters (plus any concessions, gas, etc.) is so much more. There are benefits to going out, but it's tough sometimes. I'm not sure what it's going to cost to rent Veronica Mars this weekend, but I'm sure it won't be $25. I'll miss the audience excitement, but a baby sitter wasn't in the cards this time. I want to move that direction - a ton of last year's movies that I really want to see are available through Amazon, MGo, Vudu, etc., now, but I'm still getting over the sticker shock of renting an HD movie for like $5.99. If they were $2.99, I'd be all over it. But $5.99 is more than I've ever paid to rent a PHYSICAL movie, much less a digital one. I guess I should still consider it cheap, because if we were going to theatres, that'd be $13 each, but yeah. It seems like a lot.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03288833179709873110noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6917634143872972680.post-16440888142635589692014-03-12T22:01:12.812-05:002014-03-12T22:01:12.812-05:00I think streaming is becoming a lot more prominent...I think streaming is becoming a lot more prominent, but there is the challenge with the larger providers like Netflix and Amazon of having limited content. There are more niche places to find older films, but who can join them all? I do expect that we'll see new developments that make it a lot easier, though. Have had Netflix for about a month now and although I think the movies they are offering in the Netherlands are generally quite old I have been doing quite a lot of catching up on TV shows I had not checked yet. Have been watching some good documentaries on it like The Square and Street Fight, which I had not seen yet. I think streaming is the future and recently wrote an article for Flixchatter on how I wish it would develop into the future.Nostrahttp://www.myfilmviews.comnoreply@blogger.com
