There's definitely a lot less plot than some of the more recent Miyazaki fantasies, but it still worked for me. Ponyo is another strong example, and my daughter also really likes that one. The scene at the bus stop with the umbrellas is one of many scenes that stand out because they take their time and bring out the charm. I'm not saying there's no chance, but they sound a little flimsy. I don't think that Totoro and the cat bus are in the girls' imagination, but it's open to interpretation for sure.Danhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12351431577484530230noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6917634143872972680.post-46492111122755535272014-12-30T22:26:02.834-06:002014-12-30T22:26:02.834-06:00Hi Dan, I'm glad you added this to your blind ...Hi Dan, I'm glad you added this to your blind spot. My sister is in love with Miyazaki animes. It sounds like a sweet film. I may watch this with my daughter. msmariahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15486729990673366769noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6917634143872972680.post-92176788527961444162014-12-30T20:38:17.732-06:002014-12-30T20:38:17.732-06:00I liked this one a lot. So much of it is simply being involved in the world that Miyazaki creates, and that's really enough.

I love when Totoro discovers what rain sounds like on an umbrella. That and Catbus(!) are my favorite parts of the film.SJHoneywellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13550007053995112090noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6917634143872972680.post-37124502628014638672014-12-30T19:41:21.528-06:002014-12-30T19:41:21.528-06:00This is probably the youngest skewing of Miyazaki&...This is probably the youngest skewing of Miyazaki's films, but like you said it is still very enjoyable for adults. I liked it a lot. A little scene I remember being charmed by was when the girls were just sitting up in a tree at night with Totoro blowing into something to make the sounds trees make in the wind.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6917634143872972680.post-64935079355444167922014-12-30T16:36:00.130-06:002014-12-30T16:36:00.130-06:00I like what you say about the love for nature, and...I like what you say about the love for nature, and how Totoro springs from this friendly landscape, I hadn't thought about it in that way before.
Probably the most heartwarming/cute Ghibli film I can think of, although it allegedly does also have dark hidden meanings, if you believe the rumors. You can google them.
To me, the film feels a little bit like Alice in Wonderland, where you are not sure whether it's the person’s imagination, or the events are actually for real.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09395044055566348346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6917634143872972680.post-91697482483319254592014-12-30T11:28:02.572-06:002014-12-30T11:28:02.572-06:00I checked out your post; nice job! Both make us feel so much for the child characters. Danhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12351431577484530230noreply@blogger.com
