Survivor: One World, "The Beauty in a Merge"

I was really excited for the latest Survivor episode because there wasn't clear evidence beforehand of who was going home. The episode offers plenty of interesting possibilities, but it never really comes together. Thankfully, we have quirky characters like Tarzan to keep the show entertaining. He gets into multiple spats with the departing Jonas and then riles up everyone by washing his poop-stained underwear over the fire. In this game, that type of behavior actually gives you a good chance to reach the end, so he's unlikely to go anywhere for a while. Moving up in the world, Troyzan wins the immunity challenge and finds the "hidden" immunity idol. He seems to be in a great position, but the likelihood of an all-female alliance raises questions about any guy's long-term success. The previews tease a shake-up next week, but it's possible that's just a set-up for events that won't happen for a few more episodes. For more details, check out my latest post for Sound on Sight. While you're there, you should check out their other great TV and movie coverage.

Here are a few other interesting moments that I didn't address in my review:

  • I'm a big fan of Leif, who seems like a really nice guy and wonderfully sleeps in a box. Unfortunately, he was the only guy to vote with Jonas this week, so that doesn't bode well for his long-term prospects.
  • Why would Jonas and his buddies target Kat, one of the lesser threats? She did finish second in the immunity challenge, but Kim, Chelsea, and Sabrina are all stronger players.
  • Apparently, Tarzan also shouted a racial comment at Jonas during their first argument, but it was bleeped by CBS. That's interesting after we saw plenty of nastiness from Colton during the opening six weeks, though it doesn't reach that level. Jeff Probst didn't realize Tarzan's comment was bleeped and live-tweeted about it this week. Check out this story from Reality Blurred's Andy Denhart for more details.
