That is one of the main reasons that part didn't connect as much with me. I think it's a good movie and has some great scenery like you mention, but my expectations were probably too high.Danhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12351431577484530230noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6917634143872972680.post-91889542942572767382013-08-02T05:32:15.472-05:002013-08-02T05:32:15.472-05:00The stranger arriving in town has probably been do...The stranger arriving in town has probably been done better in Sergio Leone's Dollar trilogy, though for its time I'm sure Shane (1953) must have had quite an impact.
It's a little dated today, but it was interesting to see how influential Shane was on the western genre. Plus the beautiful mountainous backdrop was stunning.
Disappointed Jack Palance's screen time was so brief, since I'd read his performance was part of the appeal.
You talk about it's still relevant today to many industry folks, I guess the theme of prejudice towards a new guy in town is timeless.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09395044055566348346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6917634143872972680.post-17353614902174922252012-09-08T11:10:22.516-05:002012-09-08T11:10:22.516-05:00Thanks.Thanks.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6917634143872972680.post-3412930675517606162012-09-06T20:14:01.759-05:002012-09-06T20:14:01.759-05:00Interesting post. I do think child actors were often not good in this era, and he looked strong by comparison. It also helped that he was part of the big scene. It's interesting that you mention Drive; I hadn't considered that, but it does have some similarities. I found him to be really annoying. The ending of this film continues to generate arguments six decades later, so the movie definitely made an impact. And the popular with the younger generation film Drive from late last year is essentially a remake of Shane, so it goes to show that the story resonates with people.Chip Laryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00787403805554027107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6917634143872972680.post-56687358169054051202012-09-03T21:30:28.025-05:002012-09-03T21:30:28.025-05:00Josh, I think it has a lot of good points.
