I hope that your're able to catch up with Daydreams; it's showing here on Amazon Prime for free. I have a soft spot because I'm a San Francisco native and a cable car fan. Sadly, we can't read the number on the car he rides, but it may still be running today. They should add a plaque, as they did with the car Bogart rode in Dark Passage. Thanks for sharing with all of us. I feel like I've barely scratched the surface! Thus far, each one that I see just makes me more interested in seeing a lot more of them. Daydreams seem to get a little less attention than some of Buster's other shorts, even though it has some wonderful gags and set pieces, as your review indicated (that shot with the ladder and policemen on the side of the building with those square windows is complete art in my opinion). Roscoe Arbuckle is said to have written the story for Buster, and even directed those fireside scenes with Renee Adoree--which makes a lot of sense considering how Fatty and Mabel Adrift the lighting is. Another interesting fact (I love discussing these shorts)--Daydreams was originally a three-reeler, which might explain why so many scenes are missing. My own theory is that some unscrupulous theaters chopped it down to make it closer to a two-reeler, to get away with scheduling more showings! What really stuck with me about that film is the stunning beauty from Tarsem. It's hard to believe what Keaton and others were able to accomplish in the early days of movies.
