TV: Chuck 5.11, "Chuck vs. the Bullet Train"

With only a few episodes remaining, time is running out for Chuck's life as a series. This week, Sarah and Casey battle to save Chuck from their latest nemesis Nicholas Quinn (Angus MacFadyen). Their success grows seriously complicated when Alex is kidnapped by the villain's goons at the Buy More. At the same time, Sarah is struggling with nasty side effects from downloading the rotten version of the Intersect. There's plenty of action and big moments, and the best comes from the dynamic duo of Jeff and Lester. These lovable idiots have been around since the show's beginning, when they seemed like one-note comic relief. It's a testament to the fine work of Scott Krinsky and Vik Sahay that Jeff and Lester still work as characters. They're rarely part of the main plot, so it's great to watch them save the day in "Chuck vs. the Bullet Train". This episode is uneven on the whole, but Jeffster's excellent scenes make it worth seeing on their own. For more details, check out my Sound on Sight review of Chuck's latest adventure.

  1. On a side note, the Bullet Train was a pretty sweet movie with Sonny Chiba.

    1. Interesting. I'll have to keep it in mind if I end up doing a Sonny Chiba marathon.

  2. I enjoyed this episode just as much as the last one. I loved Casey having to deal with Lester - (Casey to Lester as patriotic music starts to swell) "Your country needs you." (Lester to Casey, confused) "Canada?"

The whole "passengers-can-just-go-to-panels-on-bullet-trains-and-completely-take-control-of-all-aspects-of-the-train" was too much to swallow, but I suppose it saved them the screen time of showing the various folks learning how to hack into the controls.

    1. I enjoyed it slightly less, but it still had its moments. That was a great line from Casey, who was excellent in this episode. You're right about the train controls; Chuck plays it pretty loose with the details.

  3. I just ran across this article and figured I'd share it. It is one person's Top 5 wishes for the Chuck finale that airs tonight. I love #3 (Chuck has to infiltrate a Subway franchise.) http://www.tv.com/news/our-chuck-series-finale-wishlist-27634/

Personally, I'd love to see Jeffster singing The Spy Who Loved Me (aka Nobody Does It Better) as Chuck and Sarah kiss to end the show.
